Stella Mares
14 century Country Farmhouse on the unspoilt Mediterranean of Gozo
A perfect retreat in the peaceful and well-kept village of Santa Lucija, with rural views over the unspoilt island of Gozo, the less-discovered sister island to Malta. The landscape is stunning: picturesque hilltop villages and a rugged Mediterranean coastline with blue lagoons, stalactite and stalagmite caves and stunning rock formations. Gozo is home to the World Heritage site, Ggantija Temple, the oldest known stone building, which is a thousand years older than the pyramids in Egypt.
A medieval farmhouse built around a courtyard, Stella Mares includes a vaulted mill room, an arched study and a modernised limestone-and-marble kitchen. The outdoor area - with a swimming pool, dining terrace, BBQ, small garden and lounging area - is enclosed by a traditional Gozitan dry-stone wall, which backs on to fields. There is a tower off the main building with gorgeous views over the island from both the bedroom and the bathroom; its flat roof is ideal for bird lovers, astronomers, or for watching firework displays during the feast days. Santa Lucija is a five-minute drive away from the island's capital, Victoria.
Stella Mares is a private home owned by the family for 25 years. Our three children have spent all their summers on Gozo and our youngest son was born on the Island. Gozo is very much part of our family. Visiting writer-friends and artists have always appreciated its special atmosphere.
We hope you will enjoy your stay.
