The second race of the G2 Sagra Familglia Regatta was held Sunday 27th September 2009. The race commenced on time with a moderate ENE wind. The course was outside Mgarr Harbour, around Comino and back. The second race was again won by Chardonay resulting in Chardonay being teh overall winner of the 3rd G2 Sagra Familgia Regatta. Congratulations to Daniel Talma his crew.

The catered dinner the Club held at the marina on 12th September 2008 was successful and those who attended enjoyed the good food and getting together.

No wind for yachts - only one of Imperial Gozo Yacht Club feet finished.

Due to lack of wind yesterday afternoon, only one of the five yachts that started finished within the time limit of three and a half hours. The fortunate boat was Chardonay. It took her three hours and nineteen minutes to head to the rock at Mġarr Ix-Xini from the start (west of large Mgarr Harbour breakwater), over to the Fish Farm and back to the harbour.

The Imperial Gozo Yacht Club is organising the 3rd annual G2-Sagra Famiglia Regatta – established by Angelo Bajada in memory of his father Vitor Bajada. This Sunday the first of two races will be held starting at 1300hrs.

The start line will be west of large Mgarr Harbour breakwater, and the finish line east of the small Mgarr Harbour breakwater as a line between the stripped green and white breakwater lantern and the outer edge of the “Tac-Cawl Rock”.

On Saturday 12th September 2009, the Club is organizing a catered buffet dinner between Pontoon G & H at the Mgarr marina. Tickets at Euro20 per adult and Euro 10 per child, and do not include drinks. Tickets can be purchased from committee members by Thursday 10 September 2009.

Although the wind seemed very light in the morning, by the time the start signals were raised at 1300, there was a steady Westerly Force 4 blowing, which made for an excellent yacht race and a fun time for all the crew.

Seven yachts took part in the race. The race was won by Daniel Talma on the yacht Chardonay with a corrected time of 1hr 19min 32 seconds. He was followed by the yachts (time) Illusion I (1:21:36), Wacky Wacky (1:24:54), First Class (1:26:48), Third Time Lucky (1:29:58), Prime Time (1:30:20) and Rusty Nail (1:32:49).

The first edition of the Citadel Insurance Trophy is over, but this is not the last, the Citadel Insurance Trophy is here to stay and will become an annual event.

The next Imperial Gozo Yacht Club race on 13th September 2009, will be the first of two race for the G2-Sagra Famiglia Cup.

The Club Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 29th August 2009. The club's financial statements was read out and approved and a new committee was elected.

A new yacht race event has been added to the sailing calendar of the Imperial Gozo Yacht Club. The Citadel Insurance Trophy will he held on 30th August 2009 briefing at 12:00, start at 1300. This event is sponsored by Citadel Insurance plc. Those interested in participating should contact the club on igyc@mail.com.

The Club's annual general meeting will be held at the club premises on Saturday August 29th 2009 at 6:00 pm. Those member that would like to place items on the agenda or contest the election for the committee should contact the committee secretary.

IGYC is organizing a group cruise to Pozzallo, over the long weekend of 26th June to 29th June.

Sailing yachts are to depart Mgarr at 0400 on the 26th. Powerboats are to target arriving at Pozzallo at 1200.

Next Sunday, 14th June is the scheduled club boat rally which weather permitting is planned to be a trip around Gozo.

In a fresh breeze, the yacht race for the Gleneagles Cup took place on Sunday May 31st. The course, while using natural marks for turns was almost triangular and included two upwind legs and downwind and beam reach, in the South Easterly wind.

Second came the yacht Frank Farrugia on the yacht First Class and third Mr. Harman on Mary OV Geese.

On April 10th, the 2nd edition of the Barbarossa Cup was held. Just like last year this was a team race with 3 yachts from the Imperial Gozo YC competing against 3 yachts from the Vikings Sailing Club.

The race course was from outside Mgarr harbor, around Comino and back. The Vikings team won with a combined time of 5:17:34 versus 6:01:07 for the IGYC team. Congratulations to the Vikings!!

On Sunday October 26th, a squall passed over Gozo, just in the nick of time as 6 yachts were circling the start line outside Mgarr. The race was cancelled due to the imminent thunder and lightning in the area.

No date has been set for when this race will be held.

The IGYC's final yacht race for 2008 will be Robin's Round Robin k(not), which will be held on October 26th 2008. Briefing at the club at 12:30, that sunday - mandatory for all skippers. On Easter Saturday, March 22nd, the Club organized a yacht race in the form of a team race between 3 yacht from the IGYC and 3 yachts from the Vikings Sailing Club who were at Mgarr for their regular Easter visit to Gozo. The prize was the Barbarossa Cup, sponsored by Barbarossa Cruises, thanks to Chris Magro.
A good time was had by all. Thanks to the participants and the race officers.

A one hour presentation on typical first aid situations at sea will be held at the Club on Tuesday January 22nd 2007 at 7PM. Red Cross - Gozo Branch currently has a visiting First Aid expert on marine situations from Italy, who will be making part of the presentation.

Club will open around 6:30PM, let's make this an opportunity to gather before and after the presentation!!!

Capping off an active year, the Imperial Gozo Yacht Club opened its new premises at Mgarr, Gozo on Saturday October 20th 2007. The Hon. Minister Giovanna Debono, officially opened the new club premises and later also presented the prizes for the club main sailing event, the G2-Sagra Famiglia Regatta. Also present for the opening ceremony was Ghajnsielem Mayor Francis Cauchi, who presented the prizes for the laser dinghy races sponsored by the Ghajnsielem Local Council. The activities were followed by a dinner for club members and guests at the three restaurants directly opposite from the club at Mgarr.

The Club has scheduled the opening of its new premises at 24, Manoel de Vilhena Str, Mgarr for Saturday October 20th at 6:30PM. This will be followed by the presentation for prizes from the two racing events held by the IGYC during 2007 and then a dinner at the three restaurants in front of the club.

The Annual General Meeting of the Imperial Gozo Yacht Club will be held on October 19th 2007 starting at 6:00PM at the NGO Center in Xewkija. All members are encouraged to attend.
