Galleria Gaulos opened its doors to the public in June '92 with an exhibition of works by Norbert Attard. Since then, thousands of Maltese as well as foreigners have admired the artistic works of some of the best Maltese artists. Among these we find Pawl Carbonaro, Alfred Chircop, Marco Cremona, Josette Caruana, Paul Haber, David Camilleri, Victor Spiteri, Angela Zuccarello Sardo, as well as the internationally renowned British artist, Victor Pasmore. One can safely deduce that Galleria Gaulos is already a paradise of the visual arts.

Galleria Gaulos is not the usual gallery that we are accustomed to. It is the only private gallery on the island which exhibits works for periods of at least 3 months, thanks to sponsorships by leading companies. Besides, it is also a remarkable townhouse turned into a museum. Built some 300 years ago, this townhouse is in fact one of the first houses that were completed outside the old city or as it is known today, the Citadel. It combines the space and light needed to display the art with the manageable dimensions of a family home. The late world famous artist, Victor Pasmore, described it as being "intimate".

"Situated at the very heart of Victoria in Savina Square, Galleria Gaulos is bound to establish itself as a point of reference for anyone looking for a taste of authentic Gozo," wrote E. Fiorentino in the Sunday Times of 26 July 1992. In the same article, E Fiorentino adds that, "The place itself has been lovingly restored to bring out the innate beauty of the building material, a conversion process that has combined feelings of rusticity with those of a townhouse showing wealth of features pointing to a centuries-old history".

It is a townhouse constructed on three levels, as Prof. Attilio Trentin, accurately describes it in his tourist guide book on Malta and Gozo. To this end, it is not the normal gallery hall that we generally encounter. Here one finds that the various artistic works are divided in different rooms that are specially furnished and where one can remain in quietness, to study and reflect the artistic genius in front of them. When an exhibition ends, there is always on view artistic works such as paintings, watercolours, ceramic, and stone sculpture, of diverse artists and sculptures.

The main entrance of the gallery is in Piazza Savina, the first square after it-Tokk, on your way to Ta'Pinu. However, the Gallery also has another entrance on Castle street, a one-way street leading to the Citadel. For the island of Gozo, Galleria Gaulos is a little gem - and an exquisite one at that. For the discerning visitor, it is a little taste of paradise!
